The honest beauty column
Finding the right foundation can feel like an endurance sport — too cakey, too shiney, too orange. Believe me, I’ve trialled and tested some of the very best and worst foundations out there. Here are some of the skin saviours I’ve been worshipping of late and, hopefully, your perfect match.
.
BPerfect Cosmetics Chroma Cover Matte Foundation, €24.95 HOW can you truly roadtest a new foundation to make sure it has that all-important staying power? I’ll tell you how — wear it when you’re in the middle of the Californian desert. I wore this wonder base at Coachella recently and honestly, it did not budge, or more importantly, drip off my face. You can expect a full coverage matte finish but with the most radiant glow. Put simply: buy it.
.
The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation, €26 WHEN it comes to going vegan, today’s beauty landscape can be a bit of a minefield — but not anymore. For anyone lusting after an ethical foundation, it has arrived and it’s a must-buy. Enriched with vitamin E and fair trade organic aloe vera, not only will you get those feel-good vibes for going cruelty-free, this feather-light, non-cakey formula will leave you with glowing, hydrated skin. Now available in 40 different shades, including three undertones, and suitable for the most sensitive skin types, the revamped formula is definitely worth adding to your basket.
.
Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Youth Boosting Perfect Skin Foundation SPF15, €44 CHARLOTTE has one simple rule when it comes to foundation and it’s this: “Eyes can be intense, lips can be full on, but your complexion should be seamless, breathable and beautiful.” And she’s fulfilled the brief with this weightless formula. It also helps minimise pores for that winning glow of youthful skin.
.
SOSU Dripping Gold CC Me In Foundation SPF45, €24.95 PACKED with skin-quenching hyaluronic acid, what I love about this foundation is that it includes an SPF45. Available in 10 shades, it promises medium buildable coverage with a dewy finish — plus you’ll have that added glow of supporting an Irish brand.
.
Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Second Skin Dewy Finish Foundation, €27 IF you’re a regular to these pages, you’ll know how utterly obsessed I am with this foundation. Mainly because it’s like slapping a wonderfully breathable filter on my face. The lightweight liquid glides onto the skin and blends seamlessly, giving beautiful medium coverage with a luminous finish. Still not convinced? Now you can order a sample sachet for €1.50.
.
NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser, €42 I’VE never met a NARS foundation that I haven’t fallen for and this one’s no different. Think bare skin but better, it’s a must for thirsty skin this summer. The oil-free formula also helps to reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation and dark spots in just four weeks. It’s giving me luminosity.
.
YSL NU Bare Look Tint, €32 I AM all about that makeup-meets-moisturiser hybrid, which is why I want to share this skin-loving foundation with you so you can add it to your cart immediately. Available in 20 shades, the buildable tint is infused with that all-important hyaluronic acid to melt into the skin for a beautifully dewy no make-up look. It’s a genuine love affair.
