The honest beauty column
Advent calendars can seem like a frivolous buy but in beauty speak, they’re the best way to bulk buy your favourite products with a hefty discount to boot. You’ll also dip your toe into new products you haven’t tried before and honestly, who doesn’t deserve a little extra pampering?
Charlotte Tilbury Diamond Chest Of Beauty Stars Advent Calendar, €185 CHARLOTTE isn’t messing around with this treasure trove. There’s a full-sized pout-protecting Lip Oil Crystal Elixir, a favourite of mine, the cult Brow Fix, and even the viral sensation that is the Hollywood Beauty Wand inside. Buy this for yourself, or for me. We both deserve it.
L’Occitane Reusable Advent Calendar, €190 THE one downside of advent calendars is the obvious conundrum — waste. It’s hard not to feel bad about the unnecessary packaging that can come with the festivities. Luckily, L’Occitane is on hand with an eco-friendly offering that will feel just as good for the planet as it does for your skin. And the timeless design means it can be used for years and years to come. Always a sell-out, it includes the coveted Immortelle Divine Cream and Overnight Reset Serum, among a variety of other luxurious Provençal treats. Ooh la la!
MAC Bursting With Surprises Advent Calendar, €185 OK, let’s just say if someone got me this box of deliciousness for Christmas I would not be disappointed (if someone could relay this to my other half that would much be appreciated). Worth a whopping €470, it includes 16 full-sized products, which is an absolute essential because I am not about to splash out on something that only has teeny, tiny samples. It also includes best-sellers including the new MACStack Mascara and, as a bonus, the box is absolutely divine.
Clarins 12 Windows Advent Calendar, €80 HAVE you ever seen a present that screams ‘How to make my mother-in-law love me forever’ more? With the very best in skincare, body care and makeup, I promise you’re going to be the most beautiful thing under the tree if you snap up this beauty. Adore.
BPerfect x Voduz Checkmate Advent Calendar, €169.95 IT’S a giant YAAASS to this Irish beauty calendar. The perfect fusion of haircare and makeup, you’re not going to want to miss it. Instead of getting rid of last season’s stock, this chequered gem includes five cult hair and beauty essentials with six new and exclusive products, making the unpacking all the more exciting. Check and, indeed, mate.
The Body Shop Box Of Wishes Advent Calendar, €85 FOR beauty with a conscience, The Body Shop has three advent calendars to choose from, with a percentage of profits from each one sold going to Children on the Edge — created to support the world’s most marginalised children. I’m hoping Santa brings me his one, crammed with 24 gorgeous treats, including the brand’s best-selling Body Butters, Sheets Masks and Shower Creams.
Rituals The Ritual Of Advent 3D Calendar, €99.50 BESIDES being a show-stopping centrepiece — there’s even a string of lights included, so you can decorate this beautiful tree like the one in your living room — there are some serious treasures to be found inside this fir-shaped calendar. There’s a candle for every Sunday of Advent, and even some full-sized items to last long after Christmas is over.
