Olivia’s Haven Tea in the Orangery Soy Candle

I’m not going to tell you how many hours a week I spend scrolling on Instagram, but needless to say, I check in a lot – which is also how I am constantly finding new wellness and beauty brands. Here are some of the very best Irish start-ups, many of which began life during the pandemic.

Olivia’s Haven Tea in the Orangery Soy Candle, €31
COLERAINE native Olivia Burns took a leap of faith and launched Olivia’s Haven just as the pandemic took hold. She worked throughout lockdown from her home studio to build the business one candle at a time and each candle tells a story, which I love.
Olivia says: “My mum’s parents live on an old farm in the Northern Irish countryside and one of my absolute favourite rooms in their house is the citrus-smelling orangery.
“My granny Sherrard uses this leafy, colourful space to catch up with friends over a lovely hot cup of tea. I created this candle to capture this room’s cheerful ambience.”
Candles with sentimentality – adore.

Daughters of Flowers Warrior Sensitive Deodorant Cream, from €8.50
A LITTLE bit of magic goes into each and every one of the nourishing herbal offerings from this Cork-based botanical studio.
The truly special skin and hair care treats are handmade each new moon using home-grown herbs and slow, traditional methods – so not your usual mass-produced supermarket stuff, then.
I’m a big fan of the deodorant cream, which unlike some sprays, works with the body, rather than against it, to prevent a pong of perspiration. Perfect for sensitive underarms, just a pea-sized amount of the rose, cardamom and vanilla cream dries up any excess moisture to help keep you smelling of, well, roses all day long.

I love this Wicklow brand more and more by the day. From the quirky candle names that have made me snort with laugher to the delectable scents, I also love that my nostrils are enjoying sustainable and eco-friendly fragrances.
Start your collection off with this spicy floral creation, described by the team as what would happen “if Seal and the Spice Girls duetted — a kiss from a rose but with a bit of spice!”
