Let’s get glowing
Ever had a treatment so good you glow inside and out? For Neelu White, beauty is more than skin deep, writes Caoimhe Young
Based in the heart of Dublin city, beautician Neelu White has one mission — a glowing client. The skin expert and salon boss started in Dun Laoghaire 36 years ago, and now operates on Dublin’s Liffey Street.
The mum-of-one says: “My clients are like my friends. I want them to feel great. We have fun and catch up on each other’s family news. I enjoy seeing them.”
As office workers return to the city and fairy lights signal the start of the busy Christmas period — Neelu is delighted to see town regain its spirit after the pandemic.
“There is a definite buzz around the area again,” she says. “It’s lovely to see all my regular clients and new faces.”
With all her experience, Neelu has witnessed the beauty business grow and evolve.
“There was more emphasis on skin looking fresh and healthy but in recent times it is about wrinkle-free skin, lifting the jowls, and sharpening the contours of the face.
“So now to achieve this we use the advances of the sciences.
“I can now offer a whole host of machine-based treatments for the face and body, including oxygen, radiofrequency, ultrasound and LED,” she explains.
“I have some science-backed machines here that can make real and effective improvements to the skin. For example, I use radiofrequency (RF) energy to penetrate the deep layers of the skin with one of my facials. It is a safe and easy way to achieve radiant, vibrant skin.
“During a treatment session, a small device is placed on your skin. The energy waves heat the underlying dermal layers, promoting collagen production and revitalizing your skin.
“There has been a huge increase in niche salons offering a one-service salon — brow bars, waxing salons, nail bars, day spas, hotel spas, and laser and skin clinics. The choice for clients is now vast.
“In this environment, I have lasted this long by offering superior value for clients in terms of effective treatment at value for money. I also am the only person in my salon, so clients get to deal with me from start to finish, and from treatment to treatment.
“I take great pride when I show a client the difference in her skin — I work on one side first in order to show them the difference in their skin compared to the side that has yet to be worked on.
“I can achieve a lift in eyebrows and sagging jawline, and remove puffiness under the eyes.”
Neelu believes that there is a safe and non-invasive journey to beautiful skin.
“I help people to help themselves,” she says. “I ask a lot of questions about their skin, digestion, hormones and lifestyle and then I can advise and help them to take care of their skin themselves, using the information and experience I have.
“That and coming to me regularly will ensure that their skin will maintain radiance and good health.
“Winter weather makes your skin dull and dry. As your skin dehydrates, dead skin cells pile up faster.
“Don’t forget to exfoliate or come into me for an exfoliating facial to take away the dull, dead top layer of skin will ensure that your skin can cope with winter dryness, as new skin cells will be able to absorb the hydrating boosts they need.”
