Dear Angela,

My boyfriend (33) spent almost €2,000 on a new rug for our bedroom. He put it in front of the fireplace, making that corner of our room so cosy that we often stretch out on the rug to watch telly or to have a chat and a cuddle.

Last night my boyfriend tried to go further and have sex with me on the rug; he said he’d always wanted to do that and that it’s his hottest sexual fantasy. I didn’t play along.

The last time I had sex on a rug I ended up with nasty carpet burns all over my back, and I don’t fancy a repeat of that. My boyfriend said he’d let me get on top, but I don’t fancy carpet burns on my knees either. Is there a better position?

A: There is no perfect position for sex on a rug. Whatever you go for, one or even both of you are likely to end up with friction burns, unless you make love standing up and that’s surely not what your boyfriend is dreaming about.

To save your own skin, stretch out on your boyfriend from top to toe when you make love.

Your boyfriend’s back will have a tough time in this position, so please make sure that your man knows what he’s getting himself into.
