SEX TALK Ask Dr Angela: My granny walked in while I was masturbating
Open-minded and practical, Dr Angela Brokmann has answered the nation's sex problems for 18 years. Here, she answers your dilemmas.
Dear Angela,
When I spent a weekend at my granny's she walked in on me when I was masturbating. It was so embarrassing. She said I shouldn't do that because it makes me sick, is that true? Can you get an STI from it? Should I use a condom in future?
Angela says:
No, you can't catch an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) from masturbating on your own.
So there is no need to wear a condom. In regards to STIs, touching yourself is actually the safest sex practice out there. If you have sexual contacts with other people though, you should always use condoms to be on the safe side.
