The local Dublin woman who was tragically killed in her own home on Wednesday has been described as a “good old-fashioned Irish mammy” who looked out for everyone.
Mary Bergin, who was in her 80s, was found dead at a house on Seville Place, in Dublin's north inner city, at around 11.50am.
A woman in her 40s was due before Dublin District Court this morning charged in relation to Ms Bergin's death.
A post-mortem was carried out earlier this week.
Speaking to Sundayworld.com, Cllr Nial Ring, who knew the victim personally, said she was one of the loveliest women you could meet.
“Maura or Mary, as some people called her, had been living there on First Avenue for well over 40 years,” Cllr Ring said.
“She’s originally from Cavan but moved down to Seville Place where her daughter was born and brought up. She went to the local school.
“Maura was one of the loveliest women you could meet. She was a good old-fashioned Irish mammy, just a caring person.
"Somebody who gave rather than took. She was involved in the local church here, St Lawrence O’Toole’s and everybody knew her.
“She would be in and out of the local shop, KNA stores, having a chat. She would drop into people. She had a very good friend, Maria, another Cavan woman, and the two of them would pop into each other in the evening for a cup of tea.

“Outside of her church activities she would be very engaged in the local community as well, in terms of like the other women down there, they would look after everyone and each other.
“Despite her age she would look after those who were even older than she was. I mean, the profile of her is just a lovely, gentle woman who was a giver. She was there with her son and daughter and husband, a typical Irish family just living their lives.
Gardai issued an appeal following the tragic discovery on Wednesday.
“Gardaí attended the scene of the incident at approximately 11.50am,” they said.
“A woman, aged in her 80s, was located deceased inside the property with fatal injuries. Her body remains at the scene.
"A female aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to this incident. She is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Store Street Garda station.
"Investigations are ongoing," they said on Wednesday.
