Roy Keane has made a young football fan’s dream come true after meeting him at the beach in Youghal yesterday.

Cork man Eddie Morey shared a photo on social media showing the footballer posing with a group of children, including his 10-year-old son Darragh, on Youghal beach as they enjoyed the nice weather.

Eddie said that Keane was a “legend” and even bought the kids some ice creams after their photo opportunity.

Taking to Twitter to share the lovely snap, Eddie wrote: “Just met keano on the beach in youghal, what a legend, came back and called the kids up for a snap and got them ice creams aswel #roykeane #youghalbeach”

“The kids are buzzing, and Darragh in tears at finally meeting him,” he said.

Darragh also had the opportunity to speak about meeting his sporting hero on 96fm, where he told listeners that Keane was a “great fella” and was delighted that he got to shake his hand.

When asked what his favourite thing about the Cork-born footballer was, he said: “He’s sarcastic, and I love it, and he’s a great player as well and he’s a nice person in person.

“Some people think he’s rude when they see him on the TV but he’s a great fella.”

The 10-year-old revealed that his friends were “jealous” of the photo and added: “They were screaming so they were almost as excited as me.”

Darragh plays soccer for St Mary’s football club in Cork as a defender and says he hopes to play for a Premier League team like his idol Keane someday.
