Autopsy results Police in Goa say no evidence of foul play in death of Irish woman found in flat

POLICE in Goa have said there is no evidence of foul play in the death of Irish woman found dead in her rented apartment in the Indian tourist destination.

Police superintendent Shobhit Saxena leading the probe, told the Sunday World today an autopsy confirmed she had not been attacked.

“The autopsy has been done and there is no evidence of any injury or any assault or sexual assault for that matter.”

“Some chemical analysis is still being done after which we should know the cause of death.”

He said they had been able to quickly identify the 69-year-old woman after the alarm was raised by friends who found her in her locked flat at Candolim beach village.

“We have informed the Irish embassy in India, they are the ones who will be informing the family.”

“The woman’s friends who are in Goa have been contacted. They have also been asked about any suspicion of foul play.”

“But as of now there hasn’t been any such indication.”

Superintendent Saxena said she had been living in Candolim for some time and had a group of friends in the area.

“She was living alone in that apartment which was a rented apartment. I think she was here was here for a time.”

According to local media reports, when a British friend became concerned after she tried to contact the woman on her mobile.

The friend’s husband and landlord then entered to the flat when they found her “lying in a sleeping posture on the bed."
