A 20th person has been arrested by police investigating allegations of ill-treatment at Muckamore Abbey Hospital on the outskirts of Antrim.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested in the Antrim Area this morning.

The PSNI launched an investigation into the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust hospital with allegations around 1,500 suspected crimes took place there in 2017.

The investigation was sparked after a damning report into the facility which cared for adults with special needs and learning difficulties.

Following the report the police reviewed thousands of hours of CCTV footage.

A 58-year-old woman was arrested in the Antrim area last week in connection with the investigation.

So far it has been announced seven workers from the psychiatric care unit in the hospital are to be prosecuted for crimes including neglect and ill-treatment contrary to the Mental Health Order.
