A man who died in a road collision yesterday on the Ballyrobert Road near Ballyclare has been named as Peter ‘Speedy’ Reid (52).

The Islandmagee man had become trapped under an oil tanker in the incident which happened just before 2pm.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision and officers from the Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted by witnesses on 101, quoting reference 974 01/07/21.”

Meanwhile tributes have been flooding in for the popular motorcyclist online.

Damian McCloskey said: ‘Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family circle and friends.

'Speedy was one of the best and never had a bad word about anyone.

‘Will be sorely missed. Had the pleasure of working with Peter throughout our Michelin career and even after Michelin in the transport sector. Will miss our chats out on the road. R.I.P Peter (Speedy).’

Kristofier Kirkwood posted: ‘Was a true gent. Deepest sympathies to the family.’

Another, Tolga Akarsu, posted: ‘Awful news, many laughter shared together RIP Speedy.’

Eugene Haveron wrote: ‘Was just out a few weeks ago out on the bikes for a run with him after all these years, we stopped in Ballygally car park for half an hour on the way home and chatted about our younger days and our life in general. Tonight I’m a sad man and God rest you Speedy, you were one of the best. I will miss you mate, I'm totally gutted.’
