RIP Man (40s) killed in motorbike crash in Co Leitrim

His body has been removed to University Hospital Sligo where a post mortem will be carried out.

A man in his 40s has been killed in a crash involving a car and a motorbike in Co Leitrim.

The tragic accident occurred at approximately 5pm this evening on the R208 near Drumcong.

A motorbike and a car collided at Aghacashlaun, Carrick-on-Shannon.

The male motorcyclist, aged in his late 40s, was fatally injured and died.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Sligo where a post mortem will be carried out.

The driver of the car, a man in his late 30s, who was the only person in the vehicle, was not injured.

The road is currently closed pending a forensic collision investigation. Local diversions are in place. The road will remain closed overnight and the examination will carried out early tomorrow morning.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
