A man has been transferred to hospital in Dublin after he was seriously assaulted in Sligo yesterday evening. 

The man in his late 30s was treated in Sligo University Hospital after the incident at Rockwood Parade.

However, he has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin where his condition is described as critical.

Shortly after 6pm, emergency services attended the scene and treated the man for an apparent head injury.

The scene was preserved and a forensic examination has been conducted.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Any persons who were in the vicinity on Tuesday evening from 5ppm to 6.15pm, and also any persons who may have camera footage or dash cam footage from the location at the time of the incident are asked to make it available,” they said in a statement.
