The Irish accent has topped the poll for the most calming within the workplace, a new survey has found.

Office workers in the UK were asked for their verdict on their favourite accents.

As well as most calming, the Irish accent was also ranked the best for delivering bad news.

Geordie was said to be the most motivating, followed closely by a Yorkshire accent. However just over a third believed no accent in particular was more motivating than others in work.

The survey also looked at the most suitable roles for specific accents in the workplace. The Yorkshire accent was voted the best for customer service, with Geordie and Irish tied in second place.

Wendy Swash, Chief Operating Officer at Moneypenny said: "It is interesting to see the different opinions stemming from various regions of the country, one thing that remained the same was the lack of love both Brummie and Scouse accents received throughout the survey.

"Attitudes towards accents are bound to differ depending on region, however it was insightful to see the various emotions these accents evoked to varying degrees."

Moneypenny surveyed 1,000 UK office workers, questioning their attitudes towards different accents within the UK and Ireland. OnePoll carried out the survey between February 23 and 28.
