The funeral service of “wonderful family man” Jack Colling who was killed in a tragic motorcycle incident last weekend is taking place later today.
Limerick dad, Jack, who was in his 30s, died at the scene of the accident on the N69, a few miles from Askeaton, last Saturday.
He was driving a motorbike when it was involved in a collision with a van at about 1.30pm.
Jack’s remains were brought to University Hospital Limerick while the van driver, a man in his 50s, was also brought to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On his notice on RIP.ie it states that Jack, of Rostrevor Park, Caherdavin and formerly of Silverbrook, Mill Road, Corbally, Limerick, was “taken from us on March 12”.
It adds: “Sadly missed by his loving wife Christina, son Christian, daughter Riley, step-son Donnacha, parents Geraldine & Nigel, brothers Alex & Charley, mother-in-law Bernie, sisters-in-law Helen, Karen & Michelle, brothers-in-law Denis & Mark, nephews Oscar & George, uncles, aunts, relatives and his many loving friends.”

His service will take place in Shannon Crematorium at 3pm.
Messages of sympathy have flooded the condolences section with one person writing: “To Donnacha, Christiana, Christian & Riley. Please accept my deepest sympathies on the death of your beloved husband & dad. May he rest in peace.”
Another adds: “My sincere sympathy to Christina and all the Colling family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Jack will be sadly missed by all his work colleagues at Zimmer Biomet. RIP Jack.”
“I was very saddened to hear the tragic news about Jack over the weekend,” another person has written.
“He was a lovely fella and a great team mate during our underage days in Dooradoyle. Condolences to you all during this very difficult time. RIP Jack.”
“We did not know Jack but James told us on Sunday what a wonderful family man he was,” one other person has added.
Garryowen Rugby Club also paid tribute to Jack, a former underage player with the club, saying: “Jack played with us underage along with his brother Charlie who still lines our for our Thirds regularly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie and the Colling family at this incredibly heart-breaking time.”
Gardai are continuing to investigate the accident which took place on the Kilcornan side of Askeaton.
Anybody who was in the area, around 1.30pm and who may have camera footage is asked to make it available to investigating gardai.
