The Child Rescue Ireland Alert for 14-year-old Svetlana Murphy has been stood down as police officers located her safe and well in the Belfast area tonight.

Gardaí confirmed that she is in “the safe custody of the Police Service of Northern Ireland and will be reunited with her family tonight”.

An 18-year-old male has been arrested by the PSNI and is currently in custody.

An Garda Síochána has appealed that the privacy of the family be respected at this time and thanked the public, media and other agencies for assistance provided during this alert.

Officers had initiated a Child Rescue Ireland (CRI) Alert earlier today for information about Svetlana - saying they have concerns that there was ”an immediate and serious risk to her health or welfare”.

Svetlana Murphy left her home on the Coast Road in Blackrock, Co Louth at around 4pm on Monday in the company of 18-year-old Nojus Maculevicius

They were travelling in a silver Hyundai Veloster car.

Svetlana and Nojus travelled from Blackrock, Co. Louth to Newry, Co. Down on Monday and were seen there at approximately 7pm that night.

The Hyundai Veloster car was also spotted in the greater Belfast area at 5.35pm on Wednesday evening and Gardaí and PSNI were confident Svetlana and Nojus had not left the island.

Earlier this evening, a garda spokesman asked the two teenagers to contact them so they could ensure they are reunited with their families.
