A man has been arrested following an investigation into bribery in international business transactions.

Gardai from the anti-corruption unit and the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) arrested the man in Co Kildare, this morning.

It is alleged that the arrested man (50s), in his role as a procurement manager for a large retail business, received bribes from a supplier.

The retailer in question reported this matter to gardai in March and are cooperating fully with the investigation.

The suspect is currently detained at Leixlip Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 for the investigation of offences contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906, as amended.

No further information is available at this time.
