Gardai have said they were forced to disperse a crowd of revellers on Dublin's Grafton Street last night after, what was described as “worrying footage”, emerged of a gathering of people dancing and singing

Even though the city is currently under Level Three restrictions, meaning no large crowds can gather at once, dozens of people can be seengathered as a busker entertains them.

Further back others can be seen enjoying themselves but only a handful of people appear to be wearing masks, while little or no social distancing.

Gardai said they attended the scene to disperse the crowd.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí received reports of a gathering of people on Grafton Street at approximately 10pm on Friday night.

"Gardaí attended the scene and reminded those present of the current health guidelines and dispersed the group. All were compliant."

The footage emerged amid growing restrictions across the country to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The video was widely shared on social media with one person tweeting in disgust: "Grafton Street last night. My operation to remove my kidney has been cancelled due to the virus and this carry on is what is stopping urgent medical procedures from taking place."
