A whippet has made a very unusual bond and has been feeding a kitten.
Suzanne Collins, a photographer from Drogheda, caught the amazing sight of her ten week old kitten suckling from her dog, Molly, who has never had puppies of her own.
"I have Molly the Whippet about 18 months but only got Hunter the kitten two weeks ago," said Suzanne.
"I wanted them to get used to each other and socialised before I even let them out of the kitchen. When I put them together, they cuddled into each other.
"Hunter just latched on to Molly and I guess, she latched on so much that Molly's milk came in, even though she has never had any pups.
"Mollie just looks after Hunter now and cuddles him like he is one of her own. She always keeps an eye on him in the garden while he loves to run up the trees.
"I never had a kitten before but it's brought such positivity to the house. It's a good news story in lockdown."
Suzanne was keen to highlight that Beauty was nearing retirement for racing and that organisations the Irish Greyhound Trust and All About Greyhounds were looking for new homes for other retired greyhounds.
"Anyone thinking of a pet, should consider a greyhound. They are beautiful animals, mild mannered and sleep for up to 17 hours a day.
"They make excellent pets and are totally suitable for apartment living."
As for Hunter and Molly - Suzanne and her daughter Ruby are just enjoying every minute of the 'cuteness overload.'
"Apparently it's not that uncommon but we've never seen it before and are just loving how one animal can adopt another species.”
