Shoot-out Two US marshals shot and suspect killed in wild gun fight in Bronx
Sterling, who had been a suspect of attempted murder after he had allegedly shot a trooper on Cape Cod last month, was killed as he exchanged fire with the deputies.
Two deputy US marshals who were shot in a wild gun fight as they tried to arrest a man in the Bronx accused of wounding another police officer in an earlier shooting are expected to survive their ordeal.Â
Both officers were hit by gunfire as they moved in on 35-year-old Andre K Sterling in the Wakefield neighbourhood on Friday morning.
Sterling, who had been a suspect of attempted murder after he had allegedly shot a trooper on Cape Cod last month, was killed as he exchanged fire with the deputies.
One of the marshals was wounded in the leg, the other in the leg and arm, according to a statement from the United States Marshals Service.
A New York Police Department detective was also injured when he fell while carrying one of the wounded deputies to a police car.
Violence unfolded after a man, believed to be a friend of Mr Sterling’s invited the deputies into the home when Mr Sterling appeared, pulled a gun and opened fire.

Mr Sterling was shot and killed in the exchange while the man who had answered the door received a head injury in the fracas but was expected to survive.
The shooting of the state trooper in Cape Cod occurred after Mr Sterling drove in a stolen car through the village of Hyannis.
During a traffic stop, Mr Sterling shot the trooper and fled. The trooper, John Lennon, was hit in the hand and torso but survived, the state police said.
