Two men have been arrested in Spain after allegedly robbing several tourists in a ‘bird poo’ scam.
The suspects, aged 54 and 60, were arrested in connection with the con on Thursday in Benalmadena – a popular resort on the Costa del Sol.
They are accused of six instances of theft and five cases of fraud.
Police said that the pair would target their victims, typically elderly people and tourists, by pouring a liquid on the back of their clothes.
They would then approach the unsuspecting target separately and tell them they had bird poo on their clothing and would help clean them up.
As they were wiping them down, the suspects removed wallets and other valuables from their victims, officials said.
The two men are accused of then using stolen credit cards to access money through contactless payments.
Between them, the pair had 175 previous fraud charges.
