Spanish raids Sextortionist who claimed to make €50,000 a month arrested in Spain

The arrests were made after a two-year investigation into criminals who specialised extorting users on sexual encounter websites

The Spanish National Police have arrested and detained eleven people linked to a gang of sexual extortion scammers.

The arrests were made after a two-year investigation into criminals who specialised extorting users on sexual encounter websites.

Among those arrested was the head of the gang, a man nicknamed Messi del Work, who boasted on social media about earning €50,000 a month and shared photos of drugs and dangerous animals.

He was arrested in a small town in the Sierra de Jaén along with two others, while the remaining eight were located in Valencia.

Heavily armed officers are seen arresting the man in a video released yesterday by police.

Most of the main members of the gang were arrested in a house where the group engaged in extortion and electronic equipment were seized.

Other members of the group and people who acted as mules were also detained in follow-up raids.

After carrying out the investigations, police discovered that the amounts of money scammed ranged from €100 to €80,000.

The gang operated the scam by posting ads on sexual contact websites and storing the phone numbers of those interested in the offered services. Days later, they sent messages to their victims claiming that they had not attended a sexual meet up and demanding payment for lost time.

Victims were then sent intimidating messages and photos so that they would send payments to the gang.
