Court hearing Man (25) arrested for rape of Irish woman in Cyprus due to appear in court

Police arrested the man after checking the CCTV of businesses in the tourist street where it is believed the rape happened

A 25-year-old man who arrested for the rape of an Irish woman in Cyprus is due to appear in court today. 

The suspect, a resident of Paphos located on the south west coast of the island, was arrested early on Sunday, July 13.

Police arrested the man after checking the CCTV of businesses in the tourist street in which the rape is believed to have taken place.

The woman filed a complaint with the police early June 13.

She said she had been raped while walking on Agiou Antoniou street as she returned to her house.

She said that a man had grabbed her from the back, dragged her to a chapel and after raping her, abandoned her.

The woman underwent an examination.
