Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery in Dublin yesterday.

The robbery took place in a shop on Main Street in Rathcoole, at approximately 9.30pm on Saturday night.

Two armed men entered the premises and threatened the staff before taking cash and running away.

They were later spotted entering a vehicle, which travelled outbound on the M9 in the Kildare area.

Both men abandoned the vehicle after it hit a ditch and fled the scene.

With the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit and Garda Dog Unit, the suspects were located and arrested.

A search of their vehicle revealed an amount of cash as well as an imitation firearm, a hammer, and other items.

Both men, aged in their 20s, were taken to Clondalkin Garda Station and detained.

They have since been released and a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
