Two men have been arrested by police investigating a murder bid on a serving police officer in County Derry.

The men were arrested by the Police Service's Terrorism Investigation Unit in connection with the activities of the New IRA and the attempted murder of a female member of police staff who is also a part-time police officer.

An explosive device was found at the young mother's home, beside her car, in the Ballyquin Road area of Dungiven on April 19.

A 36-year-old and 44-year-old were arrested in the Derry area and have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

The men are also being questioned on suspicion of involvement in three assaults in the Creggan area of Derry which happened on January 6, and January 8, and one on February 6.
