Drugs bust Three arrests, €59K cash and €40K cannabis seized in Cork and Athlone

During the course of the search, two kilos of cannabis with a street value of €40,000, mobile phones, weighing scales, a GPS tracker and €910 in cash was recovered.

Three people were arrested after a huge haul of cannabis and cash totalling €99,000 was seized in raids in two towns.

A man in his late teens remains in custody this morning after Gardai discovered €59,000 in cash and €40,000 worth of cannabis in Cork City and Athlone.

Two other people, a man in his 20s and a juvenile female in her teens, were arrested when a vehicle was stopped and searched by members attached to the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit on Tuesday. During the course of the search, cash with an approximate value of €59,000 was recovered.

Both were quizzed at Mayfield Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 before the man was later released pending the submission of a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The teenage girl has also been released.

A follow up search at a house in Athlone, Co Westmeath, on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of an estimated €40,000 worth of cannabis and the arrest of a teenage boy.

During the course of the search, two kilos of cannabis with a street value of €40,000, mobile phones, weighing scales, a GPS tracker and €910 in cash was recovered.

The teen was arrested and brought to Athlone Garda Station where he is currently detained.
