Three people have been arrested after a man was attacked during an "aggravated burglary" in Longford yesterday.

At approximately 8.45pm on Wednesday evening, gardaí received a report of a burglary at a business on Great Water Street in Longford town.

Three people had entered the premises and assaulted a male, aged in his 30s, who was injured during the incident.

The suspects then fled, taking a number of personal items from the man.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment.

It’s understood he suffered facial wounds during the attack and his injuries are non-life threatening.

Gardaí have confirmed that they have identified the vehicle which they believed the suspected offenders were travelling in.

The vehicle was stopped in Longford town shortly after 10pm yesterday evening and the stolen property was recovered.

Two men (aged in their 20s and 40s) and one female (aged in her 20s) were arrested and taken to Longford Garda Station.

The suspects are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for a period of up to 24 hours.

A Garda spokeswoman said that investigations are ongoing and that stolen property was recovered from the vehicle.
