THREE men have been arrested after customs officials seized €7 million worth of herbal cannabis in Dublin Port earlier today.

The illegal drugs were discovered in a container which arrived from Spain into Dublin port.

The 352 kg seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Custom Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).

Three men, aged 31, 47 and 49-years-old, are currently being detained under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996 at Garda stations in Dublin City.

A garda spokesman the seizure came about as a result of routine profiling.

"Searches are continuing throughout the afternoon and investigations are ongoing.

"This operation was part of ongoing joint investigations targeting the illegal activities of organised crime groups.

A spokesman for the Revenue’s Custom Service said the massive seizure came about as a result of successful collaboration between law enforcement agencies.

"The collaboration between both agencies as well as international colleagues was significant in the successful outcome of this operation.

"This operation was part of ongoing joint investigations targeting the illegal activities of organised crime groups.
