A high-cost piece of engineering equipment was stolen from a car in Dublin yesterday.

At approximately 4.30pm on Sunday, gardaí were alerted to the theft of a Leica Viva TS16 surveying device taken from the boot of a black Skoda Superb saloon on Skerries’ South Strand.

This piece of equipment is valued at upwards of €20,000, a spokesperson from Levelling Equipment Services Ireland confirmed.

The thief entered the car via the rear passenger window, which was damaged during the incident.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to the theft to come forward.

Anyone who may have witnessed any unusual activity on South Strand, Skerries yesterday afternoon between 3pm and 4.30pm - particularly any persons carrying a red and white plastic case with the word ‘Leica’ on it - is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.

Those with any information relating to this incident are asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 802 0510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Investigations are ongoing.
