Suspect B, who gardaí believe was centrally involved in the murder of Det Gda Adrian Donohoe, has been a target of detectives for a decade.

The 32-year-old was under investigation for robberies as far back as 2011 and is suspected of being at the Lordship credit union when the detective was shot dead.

He was an associate of Aaron Brady at the time and was regularly seen in his company.

His name featured in last year's murder trial, and the court ordered he could not be identified.

He has previously given a statement in the North as part of the investigation, but this is the first time he has been arrested.

More recently, he was suspected of involvement in a cross-border crime wave that saw ATM machines being targeted.

Suspect B is before the courts and on bail in relation to a separate crime, and has been regularly travelling south of the border.

He is one of five suspects in the investigation into the murder and credit union robbery, with more than 200 people identified as persons of interest.

Justice

Other suspects remain in the US or the North, but gardaí are confident they will be brought to justice.

The list of formal suspects includes a father and his two sons who lived close to the scene at the time of the credit union robbery.

The father, aged in his 50s, was previously arrested as part of the inquiry on suspicion of providing logistical support to the gang.

Suspect A, the youngest son, was best friends with Brady at the time of the fatal shooting and is under investigation for being centrally involved in the robbery.

The man, aged in his late 20s, was frequently named throughout the trial by the prosecution as Brady's accomplice, but cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Another man, who was 20 at the time of the murder and comes from a smuggling family in Co Armagh, is the youngest of the suspects and is being investigated on suspicion of involvement in the robbery.
