A sister of suspected murder victim Giedre Ragukaite, paid tribute to those who helped after investigating gardai made their first arrest.

Ms Raguckaite disappeared in May 2018 after being last seen at a house in Laytown Co Meath accompanied by two men.

In an emotional post on social media yesterday evening her sister Gintare said “thanks to the people who weren't afraid to speak up.”

“Finally, even if I leave the terms victory and justice aside. These things don’t belong to me. We have already lost. But justice comes sooner or later, even if in different ways.”

Writing in Italian she said people “helped me so much because practically without sleep, for a whole year I dedicated my soul and body to this cause basically becoming a ghost.”

“I’ve learned to live with the pain. Even if, trust me, living knowing all the details, because we’ve known everything for a long time, is not easy at all.

“And it wasn’t easy for either one of the two suspects who in the meantime took his own life.”

Yesterday officers arrested a man at the Midlands Prison in connection with their investigation where he is serving a short sentence and he was questioned at a garda station in Co Laois.

He is one of two men believed to have been with Ms Raguckaite, on the night she disappeared.

The other suspect died by suicide in January last year as the garda investigation continued.

The body of Ms Raguckaite who it is believed was abducted from Dundalk, Co Louth, before being drugged, raped and murdered, has never been discovered.
