A NUMBER of people have been rushed to hospital, some with suspected stab wounds, after a violent clash at a graveyard in Tuam, Co Galway this afternoon.

Gardaí were called to the scene of the mass brawl on the Athenry Road after fighting broke out between two groups following a funeral.

The Garda helicopter has been brought in to monitor the situation.

It’s understood one person suffered severe slash injuries in the altercation.

A large number of gardaí attended the scene including members of the armed response unit.

It’s understood at least five ambulances transported the injured to hospital.

It’s understood the fight is related to an ongoing feud between families in the local area that has escalated in recent months.

Roads around Tuam remain closed tonight and several sporting events have been called off.

A Garda spokesman confirmed multiple Garda units are at the scene tonight.
