Revenue officers seized more than 25,000 litres of smuggled beer at Dublin Port today.

Officers searched a Romanian-registered truck and trailer that had left a ferry from Holyhead, Wales, where they discovered over 25,400 litres of alcohol, branded ‘Perla’, which had an estimated retail value of €101,300.

This seizure had a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €47,400, a Revenue spokesperson said.

The consignment was seized following routine profiling aimed at identifying alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax and duties due.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illicit alcohol products in the shadow economy.
