The police have arrested a nineteenth person in connection to allegations of patient abuse at Muckamore Abbey Hospital in County Antrim.

The woman (58) was arrested this morning in the Antrim area.

The PSNI have launched an investigation into the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust hospital with allegations around 1,500 suspected crimes took place there in 2017.

The investigation was sparked after a damning report into the facility which cared for adults with special needs and learning difficulties.

Following the report the police reviewed thousands of hours of CCTV footage.

So far it has been announced seven workers from the psychiatric care unit in the hospital are to be prosecuted for crimes including neglect and ill-treatment contrary to the Mental Health Act.
