Mum of slain boxer Kevin Sheehy 'traumatised' as killer sent to UK jail

Mr Sheehy (20), a five-time Irish boxing champion, died in the early hours of July 1, 2019, when a Mitsubishi Pajero repeatedly drove over him after a house party at Hyde Road, Limerick City.

His killer, Logan Jackson (31) of Longford Road, Coventry, England, was found guilty of his murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Now, Kevin’s mother, Tracey Tully, has opened up about feeling “let down” after it emerged that Mr Jackson would be repatriated to the UK to serve out his life sentence over the weekend.

She said that she had previously been told that Mr Jackson would serve 10 years in an Irish prison for his crime.

“On Saturday evening, I was told by gardaí that Logan Jackson will be sent back to his own country to finish his time and that was the first I’d heard of it,” she told Joe Duffy on RTÉ’s Liveline.

“The trial had just been finished five months, so you could understand we’re traumatised… We were told it was out of the gardaí’s hands, and that the decision was made.”

Ms Tully said that Mr Jackon’s transfer back to the UK would be “like a luxury” to the young boxer’s killer.

“We’re still dealing with [Kevin’s death]. Justice for me would’ve been me walking out of that courtroom with my son. I feel very let down,” she explained.

The grieving mother described her son, who was due to become a father just five weeks before his death, as a “hero.”

“He was robbed of so much. We were all robbed of so much, because I knew what Kevin wanted to do with his life, but we’ll never know what he could’ve done. [Kevin] was very respected, and loved in the community. If you met Kevin, you knew he was special.”

Speaking at Mr Jackon’s sentence hearing back in December, Ms Tully told of the devastating impact Kevin’s death has had on their family.

“I'm still stuck on July 1 2019 and I haven't a single enthusiastic bone in my body.”

She said she will never forget the morning when she was woken up to be told that her son was badly injured. “I panicked when I saw his dad's face, it was grey.”

She also spoke of how proud she was of her son: “Even though Kevin has passed on, I love being his mother. I'm so proud of my boy.”
