A man who is understood to have been shot dead at a property in County Armagh on yesterday has been named locally as Stephen Barriskill.

Mr Barriskill’s body was found at a house in the Whitesides Hill area of the town, and is believed to have been murdered on Tuesday night.

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder after he reportedly handed himself in to police yesterday.

Mr Barriskill was well-known in the area.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, local councillor Paul Duffy of Sinn Fein, said: “This is the second murder in as many weeks, that is concerning.

“We don’t know the circumstances, but obviously my thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased individual because loss for anybody is never easy.”

Earlier this month, 23-year-old Jake Bailey-Sloan died following an incident outside a licensed premises in the town.

Speaking of the death of Mr Barriskill, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Just after 12.07pm [yesterday], police responding to the report of an incident located the body of a deceased male at a residential property in the Whitesides Hill area of Portadown. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“My investigation is at a very early stage and I would appeal to anyone who was in the Whitesides Hill area from 8pm [Tuesday] and who witnessed anything suspicious to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 773 of 27/10/21.”
