Knife terror Man seriously injured in horror stabbing in Limerick as gardai restrain knife-wielding attacker

A man was stabbed in a horrific knife attack in Limerick on Sunday during which gardai had to restrain his attacker.

Officers were called to a house in the Ellen Street area yesterday evening around 5.10pm where they found a man being assaulted by another male wielding a knife.

The injured man, who is in his 50s, had been stabbed a number of times and due to an "imminent threat to life", gardai were forced to tackle the assailant and disarm him.

A man in his 20s was arrested and the knife was recovered and seized by Gardaí.

He is currently being detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The casualty, who sustained a number of apparent stab wounds during the assault, was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where he is currently being treated for serious injuries.

The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward and for anyone who was in the Ellen Street area at approximately 5:10pm to contact Gardaí.
