Man seriously injured in assault in Rathkeale, Co Limerick

Gardaí are investigating an assault in Rathkeale, Co Limerick last weekend that left a young man hospitalised with serious injuries.
The man, who is in his in late teens, was attacked at approximately 4.50am on Saturday morning.
He was taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“The scene was preserved for technical examination,” a garda spokesperson added. “No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing.

The Limerick Leader reported that the incident had sparked local concerns that it was connected to a feud between two local families and that the feud would escalate.
According to the report, Gardaí had confirmed that a routine checkpoint was conducted with armed and uniformed officers "in support of ongoing policing measures".
