A man in his 20s has been arrested by gardai investigating the alleged assault and false imprisonment of two other men following an incident in Omeath, Co Louth on Friday. 

Gardai say two men, one in his 20s and the other in his 30s were held against their will and assaulted by a group of males after they arrived at a house in the area yesterday afternoon.

One of the men managed to free himself and raise the alarm. The other man was discovered near Dromad a short time later.

They were treated at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for injuries described as non-life threatening and have since been discharged.

Gardai said the scene has been preserved and examined by local scenes of crime officers.

“A man in his 20s was arrested this morning as part of the investigation,” gardai said. “He is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 at Dundalk Garda Station and can be held for up to seven days.”
