Charged Man due in court over fatal shooting of Thomas McCarthy in Ballyfermot

A man is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning after he was charged in relation to the fatal shooting of Thomas McCarthy in Ballyfermot in July 2020. 

The dad and grandad, who was not involved in crime, was shot up to eight times after answering the door of his mother’s home at Croftwood Park at around 11am on Monday, July 27.

Mr McCarthy had only returned to his family home in Croftwood Park from Southend on Sea in England, where he had raised a family, a week before he was killed.

The two men, aged in their early 30s and mid-20s, were later arrested as gardai issued an appeal for anybody with information to come forward.

This morning, gardai said that officers investigating the fatal shooting of a man in his 50s that occurred in Ballyfermot on Monday, July 27, have charged a man in his 30s in connection with the incident.

“The man is expected to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Court 3, on the morning of Thursday, November 11, at 10.30am,” gardai said.
