A man arrested by gardaí investigating the serious assault of a woman in Dublin city centre on April 25 has been charged and is due in court today.

The man, who is aged in his 30s, was arrested on May 18 and brought to Pearse Street Garda Station.

Shortly afterwards, gardai issued an appeal to the public for information. They said the assault took place on Dame Street, Dublin 2, between 4am and 5am on Sunday, April 25.

The woman, also in her 30s, had been taken to hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Gardaí appealed for any witnesses to come forward and for anyone who may have been in the Dame Street area between 4am and 5am on April 25 to contact them.

They were looking for any road users who were travelling in the area who have camera footage to make it available to gardaí.

Gardai said the man is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at 10.30am.
