A man has been arrested and charged by Limerick Gardaí in connection with an attempted robbery and assault in the city on June 23.

He is due to appear at Limerick City District Court this morning.

The arrest relates to an incident in the Henry Street area of the city shortly before 10pm.

A man who was walking in the area was approached by another man who asked him for money. When he refused, he received a head butt into the face.

A struggle followed and the man who had been head-butted then fell to the ground. The suspect fled the scene and the man was brought to University Hospital Limerick where he was treated for his injuries. He has since been discharged.

A patrol of the area was carried out by uniformed and detective Gardaí from Henry Street and a man, aged in 30s, was arrested. He was detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and has since been charged.
