A man has been arrested during searches in the Short Strand area of Belfast this morning.

The man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A controlled drug, as well as being concerned in the supply of Class A controlled drugs and possession of criminal property.

He remains in custody.

During the search a number of prohibited weapons were recovered, including a Conducted Energy Device (CED) and a crossbow as well as a quantity of cash and a small quantity of Class A drugs.

Detective Inspector Sweeney said: “The possession and supply of drugs within communities should not, and indeed will not, be tolerated.

“Today’s arrest, and drugs and weapons seizure, reflects our ongoing commitment to safeguarding local people.
