Hammer time Man arrested and charged over armed robbery of shop in Dundalk, Co Louth

He threatened staff members and demanded cash from the till before fleeing the scene on foot with a sum of money.

A man was arrested and charged following an armed robbery incident in Louth yesterday morning.

Shortly before 8am yesterday, a man entered a shop on Carrickmacross Road, Dundalk, armed with a hammer.

He threatened staff members and demanded cash from the till before fleeing the scene on foot with a sum of money.

After a number of inquiries, gardaí arrested two people at a residence in Dundalk in relation to the incident.

A man and a woman, both aged in their twenties, were taken to Dundalk Garda Station where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984.

Since then, the woman has been released without charge.

However, the man is due to appear before the Dundalk District Court this morning at 10.30am.
