THE FATHER of an infant has been arrested after a shocking video emerged online showing him physically abusing the tot.

In the deeply-disturbing video, the father can be seen picking the baby up by its feet and dangling the child - believed to be around a month old - upside down in the air.

The clip begins with the father kissing and cuddling the child as a woman looks on and laughs.

The father then picks the child up by the feet before lifting it upside down in the air to which the woman replied: "Oh dear God in heaven, don't baptise the child like that whatever you do."

The father again picks the child up by the feet and miming the actions of a priest dipping a child headfirst into a baptism font, repeatedly and roughly lifts the child up and down by the feet as its head swings unsupported upside down.

As he does so, he mockingly says: "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

At this the woman is heard saying: "You're a bad bastard, you know that … I'm going to send this to your sister."

The man then puts the child down and starts to hug it again saying: "He's scared of me."

To this the woman responds: "He's not scared, he loves you.

"That's daddy, a hero, he's my hero, too."

The video is now the subject of a garda investigation

A few seconds later the man holds the baby by its babygro and start spinning the tot around by the fabric.

"Stop, that's not funny, even though I'm laughing," the woman said. "Ah God, that's dangerous."

Sources have confirmed to the Sunday World that gardai have launched an investigation into the incident.

A member of the public notified Gardaí of the content of the video, a source told the Sunday World.

Gardaí subsequently visited the property and it's understood the infant was removed from the scene. He was subsequently examined and found to be uninjured.

In a statement, Garda said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of alleged child neglect in the North East of the country. A man in his 30s has been arrested.

"No further details can be disclosed at this time."
