Gardaí arrested a man after seizing a haul of illegal drugs worth over €20,000 yesterday in Cork city.

In a search conducted in Churchfield, Cork, officers recovered diamorphine (heroin) with an estimated street value of €23,000, and arrested one man in his early 50s at the scene.

The man was taken to the Mayfield Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act of 1996.

This seizure is part of an ongoing intelligence led operation targeting drug distribution in Cork city.

Members of the Divisional Drug Unit carried out the search under warrant, with the help of the Armed Support Unit in Anglesea Street yesterday morning at around 11.45am.

A garda spokesperson said the investigation remains ongoing.
