An Irish burglar who escaped from a UK prison has been tracked down and returned to prison.

Convicted burglar Miles Moorhouse absconded from HMP Sudbury open prison on June 9 and now Derbyshire Police are appealing for information about his whereabouts.

The 32-year-old, with a previous address in Dublin, was jailed at Isleworth Crown Court in 2018 for aggravated vehicle taking, three house burglaries and criminal damage.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police had asked people to contact them directly if they have information about Moorehouse.

"The 32-year-old has links to Bedford, London, Essex and Dublin and is described as being white, around 6ft tall with blue eyes, sandy brown hair and has an Irish accent, a spokesman for the police has said."

But yesterday, police released a statement saying they had located Miles Moorhouse, in Essex on Wednesday, July 14.

In a post on Twitter, they wrote: “Miles Moorhouse, who was wanted for absconding from Sudbury prison in June, is no longer being sought by officers and was found in the Essex area on Wednesday 14 July.

“Thank you to all who shared our appeal.”

In 2018, Moorehouse was arrested after a plain clothes officers from the West Area Pro-Active Unit responded to a call to a number of males trying to break into an address in the Norwood Green area.

Officers attended the location but the suspects had already fled the scene.

However, the team received a similar call to a second address nearby.

When they arrived they heard a house alarm so made their way towards it, only to discover several males loading goods into the back of a Black Audi S3.

On spotting the officers, the males attempted to escape in their vehicle, driving at speed past pedestrians and through red lights at a busy junction.

The suspects eventually abandoned their vehicle and made off on foot closely followed by the officers.

Three of the suspects were detained and arrested on suspicion of a number of burglary offences.

At Isleworth Crown Court on 20th November 2018, the defendants pleaded guilty to a number of offences of burglary, attempted burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.
