Gardaí have shared hilarious anniversary message reminding a driver who made a homemade insurance disc that it has now "expired".

Writing on an official Facebook page, a spokesperson said, “Happy one year anniversary. It’s been nearly a year since we posted about this fraudulent insurance disc which turns out to have an expiry date of today, 09/04/2021.”

The revealed that gardai from Unit D Henry Street, Limerick had intercepted and seized the car that was displaying the "disc" and the driver was prosecuted through the courts.

The unconvincing fake claimed the motorist had just renewed their insurance and was insured until April 9, 2021.

The "disc", which was written in biro and marker displayed a car registration, the name of an insurer and a phone number - but gardai weren't buying the forgery.

At the time gardai encountered the cheeky driver, they revealed how they were about to receive a “not-so homemade summons to appear in court."
