
fines issued Gardai seize six beer kegs during search of suspected shebeen in Co Offaly
Gardai have issued a number of fines after discovering several people drinking in a suspected shebeen in Co Offaly today.
Officers searched the private premises in Edenderry earlier today as part of Operation Navigation due to suspicions that the site was in breach of liquor licensing legislation.
During the search, gardaí discovered a number of people on the premises consuming alcohol in a fully-operational bar.
A significant amount of alcohol, including six beer kegs, were also seized during the operation.
The offenders will all be issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for an alleged breach of Regulation 4 of the Health Act 1947 Regulations, Restriction on the Movement of Persons.
A file is in the process of being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The COVID-19 pandemic remains a public health crisis and An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all citizens to comply with Public Health Guidelines and Regulations in order to save lives.”
