Cannabis and cash seized in Lucan

A man has been arrested after gardai seized a huge haul of drugs worth over €160,000 and in €8,000 in cash in west Dublin.

Officers uncovered €166,900 worth of cannabis herb and €8,000 in cash after a number of searches yesterday.

Gardaí on patrol in Lucan stopped a vehicle at approximately 9.15am on Saturday, September 25.

They discovered a rucksack which contained cannabis herb estimated to be worth €6,900, €4,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

A follow-up raid was carried out under warrant at a nearby house and a further €160,000 in cannabis herb was found along with €4,000 in cash and other drug paraphernalia.

The drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis.

A garda spokesperson said: "A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in connection with the search and he was taken to Ronanstown Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984."

Investigations are ongoing.
